A new drug is able to protect cancer patients from nerve damage
According to rough estimates, 30% to 40% of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, experience neurologic disorder such as peripheral neuropathy. It is characterized by tingling, numbness, weakness and pain in the hands and feet as usual. A new drug can prevent cancer patients from this disorder, Zee News reports.
Because of peripheral neuropathy, the quality of life of patients is reduced. Some patients refuse chemotherapy, as a result they have less chances of survival. Scientists from Barcelona have tested a new drug preventing the development of peripheral neuropathy.
During the second phase of clinical trials, it was established that the drug coped with its task successfully. The signs of impaired peripheral nerve rarely occurred in people who took this drug. The researchers hope that the new drug will soon be launched on the market.
