In Ukraine, for the first time an artificial heart was transplanted

Heart transplantation was carried out for 41-years-old Paul Doroshko from Kharkov.

In Ukraine, for the first time an artificial heart was transplanted. It was announced by Boris Todurov the director of Institute of Heart.

"We did it! In Ukraine the first artificial heart was implanted in the Institute of Heart. The patient has just been transferred to intensive care department” said the director.

Previously Tudor said 41 years-old Paul Doroshko with severe heart failure was admitted to the Institute.

According to the doctor, the use of artificial heart for patients with severe cardiac disease increases their chances to survive and to wait for required donor organ. The cost of artificial heart - 120 thousand euros.

It is reported that the service life of this heart is not limited; some patients live with such heart for over 8 years.
