Johns Hopkins University raised $17 million to study psychedelics

   State funding does not provide for the study of psychedelics in the United States, so university scientists plan to cover research costs by attracting philanthropists and private investment. The university has opened a Centre for the study of psychedelics as medications for the treatment of neurological diseases. It was sponsored by Steven and Alexandra Cohen Foundation and four benefactors who raised about $ 17 million.

   Hopkins University conducted some studies on psychedelics in the past. For example, psilocybin study (a chemical substance that is found in some types of mushrooms). Subsequent studies will help to assess whether it can be effectively used in the treatment of opioid addiction, Lyme disease, Alzheimer's disease, anorexia nervosa, post-traumatic stress disorder etiology, alcoholism and depression.

   In the future the scientists hope to create remedies based on the individual characteristics of individual patients.
