Leronlimab is a new effective protection against HIV

Leronlimab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that has shown promising results in animal experiments: This experimental drug protected monkey rhesus from HIV infection.

Six monkeys took part in the drug experiment, and none of them contracted HIV infection. The drug was well-tolerated and did not cause side effects. Its unique mechanism is explained by the fact that it binds to CCR5 receptor, through which immunodeficiency viruses enter the host's immune cells. In the experiment, leronlimab was effective at a dose of 50mg/kg every two weeks. In the future, the developers want to lower the dosage in a human study: immune monkey-rhesus contains more CCR5 receptors than human ones. That is why the drug was administered to them in high concentrations. Scientists believe that clinical trials in volunteers will start within a year.
