«Recharging the brain» is a new development of scientists

As everyone knows, any physical activity improves cognitive performance in humans. At the University of California, Science Mag has developed a system to simulate this effect in sedentary individuals. They were involved in an experiment where the first group of mice was given a running wheel, and the second was not. For 6 weeks, the mice of the first group ran in a wheel, after which their blood was transfused into the mice of the second group without a wheel. This procedure was carried out 8 times within 3 weeks. The results have shown that the sedentary group of rodents began to cope better with all tasks and tests for memory and learning. After analyzing the brain of rodents, it was revealed that the number of new neurons in the hippocampus (memory center) increased by 2 times. The mice of the first group had the same results. The scientists have found that this phenomenon is associated with the presence of a specific enzyme - glycosylphosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase D1, for which Gpld1 gene is responsible. Following enzyme administration, the sedentary rodent cognitive functions and indicators of neural activity were also significantly improved if the animals were transfused with the blood of active rodents. The scientists have also found that elderly who are actively involved in physical exercise have higher blood levels of Gpld1 enzyme.
