Scientists have discovered a new class of antibiotics

Antibiotic bacteria resistance is one of the most acute problems in medicine. The lack of new drugs and the reckless use of antibiotics led to a major crisis in the treatment of infectious diseases. As The Daily Mail notes, many bacteria causing deadly diseases are not afraid of antibiotics, absolutely.

American scientists have analyzed more than 1,000 soil samples from all over the country. For the first time in 30 years, the researchers have discovered an unknown class of antibiotics - malacidins. The new

antibiotics have successfully passed tests on rodents. It turned out that malacidins are able to cope even with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is multidrug-resistant.

The discovered compounds affect the bacterial cell wall. Moreover, the drug is not toxic for mammalian cells (even at the highest concentrations). Bacteria, which can be resistant to malacidins, have not been found yet. The scientists hope that these new antibiotics will save many lives.
