Supplements with magnesium can prevent fractures
Scientists from the University of Bristol and the University of Eastern Finland recommend middle-aged men to include supplements with magnesium in the diet. This will help to reduce the risk of fractures in old age. The study involved 2,245 middle-aged men. The volunteers were monitored for 20 years, Newsmax writes.
The researchers have found that the risk of fractures in volunteers with low levels of magnesium in the blood (especially the femur) was increased. In participants with high levels of magnesium in the blood, the probability of fractures was reduced by 44%. No man with very high magnesium levels in the blood had fractures during the study.
Specialists note that magnesium from food was not associated with fractures. Protection was provided by the supplements with magnesium. Previous studies have shown that magnesium also reduces the risk of heart attacks, normalizes sleep and has a positive effect on the immune system.
